iPhone will still suck…
Brief follow-up to yesterday’s iPhone rant, when I said the iPhone will suck because it lacks a tactile keyboard, it’s on a 2.5G network, it’s Cingular only, and development is closed. 3 more reasons have come to my attention since then:
1. It lacks GPS capability. For a $500 phone, how retro! A terrible blow for folks like me who think neogeography will be “the next big thing.” (Or at least “one of the next big things”).
2. Users are required to have an iTunes account (and submit cc info), whether they use iTunes or not. This is truly heinous, and makes me wonder what kind of DRM nonsense they’ll think of next…
3. No Flash support. This goes along with the closed development loop I suppose, but it’s a major, major flaw IMHO.
Finally, I titled yesterday’s brief “iPhone – Hit or Miss”, when I should have called it “The iPhone will suck”, hence today’s headline.
I agree with most of this – and I read an article the other day that reported the iPhone will not synch with Microsoft Outlook/Exchange… how does Apple expect to woo the corporate customer when they haven’t developed a device that’s compatible with established standards? Not smart.
